Calculation Steps
Step 1: Measure the project area in square feet.
Step 2: Select the tile material and note its cost range.
Step 3: Add the fixed costs for labor, additional materials, equipment rental, and optionally floor removal.
Step 4: Calculate the total cost and cost per square foot.
Formula: $$\text{Total Cost} = (\text{Tile Cost } + \text{Labor Cost} + \text{Materials Cost}) + \text{Equipment Rental Cost} + \text{Removal Cost } $$
Formula: $$\text{Cost per Square Foot} = \frac{\text{Total Cost}}{\text{Area}}$$
Example
Let's say you have a bathroom area of 100 sq ft, using ceramic tiles, with fixed costs for labor, materials, equipment rental, and optionally floor removal.
Step 1: Calculate the total cost range:
$$\text{Total Cost Min} = (1 + 10 + 1) \times 100 + 25 = 1,225$$
$$\text{Total Cost Max} = (12 + 14 + 2) \times 100 + 50 = 2,850$$
If including floor removal:
$$\text{Total Cost Min} = (1 + 10 + 1 + 4) \times 100 + 25 = 1,625$$
$$\text{Total Cost Max} = (12 + 14 + 2 + 9) \times 100 + 50 = 3,750$$
Step 2: Calculate the cost per square foot:
$$\text{Cost per Square Foot Min} = \frac{1,225}{100} = 12.25$$
$$\text{Cost per Square Foot Max} = \frac{2,850}{100} = 28.50$$
If including floor removal:
$$\text{Cost per Square Foot Min} = \frac{1,625}{100} = 16.25$$
$$\text{Cost per Square Foot Max} = \frac{3,750}{100} = 37.50$$
So, the total cost range is $1,225 - $2,850 (or $1,625 - $3,750 with removal), and the cost per square foot range is $12.25 - $28.50 (or $16.25 - $37.50 with removal).
