Calculation Steps
Step 1: Measure the project area in square feet.
Step 2: Select the hardwood material and note its cost range.
Step 3: Add the fixed costs for labor, additional materials, equipment rental, flooring finishing, and optionally floor removal.
Step 4: Calculate the total cost and cost per square foot.
Formula: $$\text{Total Cost} = (\text{Hardwood Cost} + \text{Labor Cost} + \text{Materials Cost} + \text{Finishing Cost}+ \text{Removal Cost} ) \times \text{Area} + \text{Eq Rental Cost} $$
Formula: $$\text{Cost per Square Foot} = \frac{\text{Total Cost}}{\text{Area}}$$
Example
Let's say you have a hardwood flooring area of 100 sq ft, using oak, with fixed costs for labor, materials, equipment rental, flooring finishing, and optionally floor removal.
Step 1: Calculate the total cost range:
$$\text{Total Cost Min} = (2 + 4 + 1 + 1) \times 100 + 50 = 850$$
$$\text{Total Cost Max} = (4 + 8 + 1.5 + 3) \times 100 + 80 = 1,630$$
If including floor removal:
$$\text{Total Cost Min} = (2 + 4 + 1 + 1 + 2) \times 100 + 50 = 1,050$$
$$\text{Total Cost Max} = (4 + 8 + 1.5 + 3 + 5) \times 100 + 80 = 2,130$$
Step 2: Calculate the cost per square foot:
$$\text{Cost per Square Foot Min} = \frac{850}{100} = 8.50$$
$$\text{Cost per Square Foot Max} = \frac{1,630}{100} = 16.30$$
If including floor removal:
$$\text{Cost per Square Foot Min} = \frac{1,050}{100} = 10.50$$
$$\text{Cost per Square Foot Max} = \frac{2,130}{100} = 21.30$$
So, the total cost range is $850 - $1,630 (or $1,050 - $2,130 with removal), and the cost per square foot range is $8.50 - $16.30 (or $10.50 - $21.30 with removal).
